With Bryan Singer exiting the X-Men franchise after the poorly received X-Men: Apocalypse and the contracts on James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence having expired, 20th Century Fox is rumored to be considering a reboot of the X-Men franchise.

Fox could be kicking off a new era of the franchise with New Mutants. Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) has been developing the project for some time now with Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) rumored to star as Wolfsbane.

Per a new report from Le Journal de Montreal, the production office for the seventh installment of the X-Men franchise opened yesterday at MELS studios. Set construction for the film will begin in January with shooting to get underway in May lasting for several months.

It is unknown whether or not this could be a continuation of the current franchise or a reboot, however. Josh Boone retweeted Den of Geeks coverage on the story, teasing the film going into production could be New Mutants.

New Mutants seems like the perfect way to give the Fox’s X-Men universe the refresh it desperately needs in order to wash the bad taste of X-Men: Apolocaypse from audience’s mouths. The franchise needs a new lease on life brought to fruition by some new blood and rolling with a set of different characters is a smart way to go.

Fox recently set two release dates for untitled Marvel projects including November 2, 2018, and February 14, 2019. Considering Deadpool was originally released around Valentines Day, with the sequel set to hit theaters next January and Deadpool 2 & 3 shooting back to back, it’s likely Deadpool 3 will land in February 2019, leaving November 2018 open on the release calendar for New Mutants to make its debut.
