‘Arrow’: “Who Are You” Extended Preview

Screen Shot 2016-12-27 at 12.44.54 PM.png

Arrow has essentially rendered deaths on the series meaningless as it has found countless ways to bring back characters from the grave since first introducing magic into the series and using the Lazarus pit to resurrect Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) in the third season. Since then we have seen every dead character return in some form or another with the exception whether it be a flashback, hallucination, or dream. But it seems the writers have come up with a new mysterious reason to explain the return of a former series regular.

To close out the first half of season five, Oliver returned to his lair to find Laurel Lance A.K.A. Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) eyeing up her old super suit. At least it looked like her. The new promo for the midseason premiere titled “Who Are You?” teases this Black Canary could either be Black Siren (who was last seen in The Flash’s metahuman prison underneath Star Labs) or someone else entirely.

Arrow returns January 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Red Band Trailer

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-3-29-40-pm

Yesterday on Christmas Day, 20th Century Fox dropped the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to Prometheus and prequel to the original Alien. The film looks good but the trailer feels a little too familiar. Like the Assassin’s Creed trailers, this trailer also suffers from poorly chosen, out of place music that takes away from what could have been a terrifying trailer.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters May 19, 2017.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterson, Noomi Rapace, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, and Guy Pearce. Written by Michael Green, John Logan, and Jack Palgen. Directed by Ridley Scott.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Katherine Waterson Takes the Lead in a New Photo From ‘Alien: Covenant’

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-3-29-40-pm

The marketing campaign for Alien: Covenant is pushing forward steadily, doling out tantalizing images the remind us the film will be closer in tone to the original Alien than other entries to the franchise such as Aliens or Prometheus. But the new film has to separate itself and stand out from the original Alien and Katherine Waterson who plays the character of Daniels told Empire just how Daniels differs from Ripley:

“Unlike Sigourney in Alien, [Daniels] is in a survival mode of sorts from the beginning. She’s not the captain, but she’s a natural leader so in times of crisis she falls into that position quite easily.”

Personally, Waterson looks a little too much like Ripley for my taste. So far the images released from the film have given me a lot of hope that Alien: Covenant is taking things back to the bloody horror roots of the original but I am beginning to worry this could be a bit of a retread. If it was a sequel it wouldn’t bother me so much but considering this is before Alien in the timeline, I’m worried Daniels’ character could take away from how special Ripley is if both characters are too similar.

New Look at Pennywise From Andy Muschietti’s ‘IT’ Remake

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-1-30-43-pm

Beep beep Ritchie!

The film adaptation of Stephen King’s IT from director Andy Muschietti (Mama) is said to be the truest adaptation of the novel yet, however. Rather than being split between the child and adult narratives like the book and the TV-Miniseries from 1990, the film will instead focus solely on the children and will later be followed by a sequel centered on the adults as they defeat the evil clown Pennywise for good. The film will also swap out the 1960’s era, setting the children’s storyline in the 1980’s, picking up with them as adults in modern day as opposed to the original 1980’s setting.

Thanks to the film’s makeup effects artist Tom Woodruff Jr., we have a new look at Pennywise played by Bill Skarsgård who is ready to make you float.

The film stars Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher, Wyatt Olef, Jack GrazerJeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Chosen Jacobs, and Bill Skarsgård. Written by Gary Dauberman and Chase Palmer. Directed by Andy Muschietti.

Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel. A group of young kids face their biggest fears when they seek answers to the disappearance of children in their hometown of Derry, Maine. They square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’: “Motorcycle Chase” Clip

Screen Shot 2016-12-22 at 7.05.41 PM.png

The third outing of the xXx franchise which features the miraculous return of Vin Diesel’s character Xander Cage from the dead is less than a month away from its release. So far the trailers have offered glimpses of the film’s absurd action sequences and today we get a short clip previewing the moments leading up to what has been the trailers most talked about moment when Diesel, in pursuit of Donnie Yen, goes surfing with dirtbikes.

Yeah, you read that correctly.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage hits theaters January 20, 2017.

The film stars Vin Diesel returning to the role of Xander Cage, Donnie YenDeepika Padukone, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Tony Jaa, and Samuel L. Jackson with a script written by Chad St. John and F. Scott Frazier, directed by D.J. Caruso (DisturbiaEagle Eye).

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

‘Star Wars: Rebels’ Might Show The Battle of Scarif From the Ghost’s Perspective

screen-shot-2017-01-04-at-3-20-41-pm

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured several Star Wars: Rebels easter eggs including multiple shots of the Ghost, an appearance by Chopper, and the name Syndullah heard over the Massassi base’s intercom system.

Next month the series will begin to explore connections to Rogue One as Forest Whitaker reprises his role as Saw Gerrera, hopefully showing us just how Gerrera’s extremist ways led to him becoming a PR problem for the Rebellion and ultimately his exit alliance to form the splinter cell seen in Rogue One.

But it seems Gerrera may not be the only time Rebels connects to Rogue One. In a recent round-up of all the Rebels easter eggs from EW, Rebels EP Dave Filoni teased the series may eventually show us the Battle of Scarif from the Ghost crews perspective:

“I already have some theories about the story behind it…I can imagine doing that entire [Scarif] battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”

Considering we know Hera and the Ghost are part of the battle it only makes sense for the show to include the Battle of Scarif once the series catches up to that point in time in about two seasons. This news gives me hope that whoever is on the Ghost at that time has the potential to survive the Rebels series and appear in other forms of canon whether it be another animated series, comic, or novel. My only concern is that we could get a watered down version of the Battle of Scarif considering it’s a children’s series and as we saw in Rogue One, it was a pretty vicious battle. But since we have now seen the Ghost was in the battle, it would be pretty odd for the series to skip the battle if it does indeed continue past that point in time and if it does, that also presents another obstacle for the Lucasfilm story group as Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star just days after the events of Rogue One and the Ghost crews whereabouts would have to be further explained for it all to make sense and tie in properly.

‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Starts Filming Next Month

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-2-58-07-pm

After both Warcraft and Assassins Creed failed to live up to expectations of both fans and studio executives alike, we’re going to have to wait until 2018 for film adaptations of video games to have another chance at legitimizing themselves.

Thanks to a report per My Entertainment World (h/t Screenrant), we now know Roar Uthaugh (The Wave) is set to commence principal photography on the reboot for Tomb Raider next month starring academy award winner Alicia Vikander with filming taking place in the UK and South Africa.

The feature film reboot of the video game is set to be an origin story for Lara Croft that will draw influence from the 2013 reboot of the video game. Lara will set out on a quest to find her father that will force her to discover the courage within, becoming the heroic archaeologist we know as the Tomb Raider. Walton Goggins (Justified, Son of Anarchy) is also attached to star as the film’s antagonist.

Tomb Raider is currently slated to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
