After Cliff Martinez’s last minute exit as the composer of Logan, myself and many fans were concerned that the score for the film wasn’t going to live up to the quality that has been foreshadowed by the film’s incredible trailer. Fortunately, 20th Century Fox found a more than satisfactory replacement with composer Marco Beltrami (The Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma). As of now, Beltrami has already written the score for the film and recording sessions are underway at the Newman stage on the Fox lot.
James Mangold took to twitter yesterday to share a brief look into the recording for what sounds like an intense scene. The music itself feels like a perfect fit for the western tone evoked in both the trailer as well as all the images released throughout the film’s social media campaign. Check it out below!
After the release of one of the greatest trailers of all time, we have only gotten tantalizing images for Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine. But thanks to Jackman, the film’s official synopsis has finally been revealed.
In the future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Unfortunately, the synopsis reveals nothing unknown but that’s a good thing. As we all know, marketing campaigns leave little to be discovered in the theater these days. As a second trailer for the film looms, my hope is that we get to go into this incredible looking film as cold as possible.

In a continued effort to boost the awards buzz for Deadpool, the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, the film’s starRyan Reynolds has kicked off the film’s Oscar campaign, tweeting out a hilarious for your consideration ad poking fun at for your consideration ads themselves.
The film has already received nominations from the DGA, PGA, and WGA, as well as two Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Ryan Reynolds for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
In just a few weeks, the pulse-pounding real-time format series 24 returns to Fox in the form of a reboot titled 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton).
The latest trailer for the series features the return of the return of the former head of CTU turned terrorist Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard). Executive Producer Manny Coto stressed in a recent interview with EW that new viewers won’t need to have seen the previous series, however, Tony’s troubled past will come into play:
“This is just a character who has a certain past we need to explicate. And Tony’s dark past comes back to haunt Rebecca in some way.”
Tony was last seen in prison on the special features for 24: Live Another Day in a short filmpleading for his release from prison so that he could make up for his sins. The short film closed ominously as Tony looked through a pair of spyglasses (slipped to him by the DOJ), mapping his escape route out of prison but it seems he never made his way out.
The clock resets Sunday, February 5th after the Superbowl.
In just under a month, the real-time format series 24 returns to Fox in the form of a reboot titled 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton).
The new series follows military hero Eric Carter after he has returned home from a successful mission to terminate a major terrorist to find himself and his family are now being targeted. Carter turns to the only person he can trust, Counter Terrorist Unit Director Rebecca Ingram (Homeland’sMiranda Otto) who helped coordinate his mission overseas.
Executive Producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto, who both served as producers on the original series, recently dished on what was originally a brand new concept that later evolved into the reboot for 24.
“No one was actually asking us to bring 24,” Coto told EW. Originally the show’s concept had been developed as a thriller based on the team of Navy SEALs who killed Osama bin Laden. Coto and Katz wanted to explore what would happen if one of those soldiers was forced into witness protection after he’s returned home to find himself now the target. “The more we talked about it, the more we realize this would be really energetic and alive if it were in real time,” Coto added.
The trailer for the series has managed to capture the same pulse-pounding feel and flavor as the original series, however. The series will flip the script in more ways that one. Instead of having the series follow an experienced field agent at home, Legacy will focus on the ex-army ranger Carter and his sort of crash course thrust into the day of a CTU Agent. Rather than having the Federal Agent/President dynamic like past seasons of 24, Legacy will instead be co-led by Carter and Ingram, the military hero and director of CTU. Coto offered up an explanation as to why the creative decision was made to switch up the dynamic:
“We have nine seasons of 24, so the challenge was not to do something completely new, but to do variations on what we’ve done and not go down the same road, because we’ve done everything. That’s why we don’t have a president this year. We have someone who is running for office and who is dealing with the challenges of that and it’s a different dynamic.”
But those aren’t the only changes to the series. In the wake of 9/11, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) became an answer to many American’s fears and gave them hope that someone was out there sacrificing it all to protect them. The series began with a relatively small threat of an assassination but later evolved into plots involving weapons of mass destruction and biological weapons. Legacy will attempt to scale things back a bit while at the same time upping the fear factor as it will tackle a much more relevant topic to today: homegrown terrorism. Katz explained homegrown terrorism “is very much what’s on people’s minds”.
Even though Legacy will attempt to stand out and on its own from the original series, it will still connect back to the original in a pretty major way as later in the season it will feature the return of the former head of CTU turned terrorist Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard). Chances are he’s out and involved one way or another with the threat in the new season. But Almeida isn’t the only character from the original series who’s fate is left in question. The last we saw Jack Bauer, the main character of all 9 seasons, he was being lifted off in a helicopter to go rot in a Russian prison. Not exactly the most satisfying finish for such an incredible character.
Sutherland has always been an advocate for the series continuing beyond the character of Jack Bauer. In fact, he was the first person to ever say that the real-time format was the real star of the show. While I completely agree with him, the one major problem with for 24: Legacy is that you can’t ask returning fans of 24 to invest in the new characters if you aren’t going to resolve the storylines of past characters, namely Jack Bauer. But so far the series does look promising. The return of Tony gives hope the series will eventually feature the return of Jack. Currently, Sutherland is tied up starring on ABC’s Designated Survivor so it won’t be happening during Legacy’s first 12-episode run. But that’s a good thing. If anything, Legacy should follow the same formula as The Force Awakens. First get your audience invested in the new characters and then start bringing back the original characters which will also hopefully include Chloe O’Brien played by Mary-Lynn Rajskub.
Long-time fans of the original series are in luck, however, as Carlos Bernard won’t be the only returning star from the original series. Jon Cassar, the director who polished the style and tone set in the first season and directed some of the series biggest and best episodes is currently listed at the helm of four episodes for Legacy.

Deadpool is continuing to break ground and pave the way for the future of the superhero genre. After becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, Deadpool has now landed itself a best-adapted screenplay nomination from the Writers Guild of America.
The comic book adapted for the big screen by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick has been praised for it’s fantastic and hilarious storyline along with its action sequences and visual effects that were done on an extremely modest budget but manage to rival those of Marvel’s biggest films.
This isn’t the first time a genre film has been nominated by the Writers Guild of America. In the past, the WGA has recognized the brilliance of such films as Guardians of the Galaxy and Rian Johnson’s time-travel thriller Looper but what is important about Deadpool’s nomination is that it signals a possible Oscar nomination for the film later this year. The chances are slim it will manage to win but it absolutely deserves the nomination.
The chances Deadpool will take home the WGA award is also slim as it is up against some pretty stiff competition including:

Yesterday on Christmas Day, 20th Century Fox dropped the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to Prometheus and prequel to the original Alien. The film looks good but the trailer feels a little too familiar. Like the Assassin’s Creed trailers, this trailer also suffers from poorly chosen, out of place music that takes away from what could have been a terrifying trailer.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
The marketing campaign for Alien: Covenant is pushing forward steadily, doling out tantalizing images the remind us the film will be closer in tone to the original Alien than other entries to the franchise such as Aliens or Prometheus. But the new film has to separate itself and stand out from the original Alien and Katherine Waterson who plays the character of Daniels told Empire just how Daniels differs from Ripley:
“Unlike Sigourney in Alien, [Daniels] is in a survival mode of sorts from the beginning. She’s not the captain, but she’s a natural leader so in times of crisis she falls into that position quite easily.”
Personally, Waterson looks a little too much like Ripley for my taste. So far the images released from the film have given me a lot of hope that Alien: Covenant is taking things back to the bloody horror roots of the original but I am beginning to worry this could be a bit of a retread. If it was a sequel it wouldn’t bother me so much but considering this is before Alien in the timeline, I’m worried Daniels’ character could take away from how special Ripley is if both characters are too similar.

When 20th Century Fox previewed the first 40 minutes of the upcoming prequel to Alien, Alien: Covenant just two weeks ago, talk began to swirl on the web that James Franco had a cameo during the film’s introduction as Branson, the pilot of the Covenant and Husband to Katherine Waterson’s character Daniels.
While promoting his upcoming film, Why him? Franco confirmed his involvement with the film to We Got This Covered although he wasn’t quite sure he was allowed to:
“I don’t know what I’m allowed to say with that one. Yeah. I guess the news broke. Everybody is going crazy about that.”
Two new images have also hit the web per the film’s official twitter account as well as Entertainment Weekly giving us a look at Daniels taking aim with her weapon and a squad of Weyland- Yutani agents heading into action.

Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Carribbean) isn’t quite the name you think of when you hear the words “visionary filmmaker” but the footage seen in the trailers alone from his next film A Cure for Wellness looks absolutely stunning and completely terrifying. 20th Century Fox has released a new chilling international trailer for what it no doubt hopes will be the next horror classic. Regardless, 2017 looks to be continuing the resurgence of horror that began this past year first with by A Cure for Wellness followed by Get Out a week later in February.
