‘Iron Fist’ Showrunner to Take on ‘The Inhumans’

Just a month ago Marvel announced a groundbreaking partnership between IMAX and Disney/ABC Television Group to bring Marvel’s The Inhumans to the small screen. In an unprecedented move, the series will first see a theatrical debut exclusively in IMAX theaters on Labor Day 2017 for the first two episodes shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Following the theatrical debut, ABC will capitalize on The Inhumans by premiering extended versions of the first two episodes before beginning its fall run on September 26, 2017. Currently, the series is capped at eight episodes with subsequent action sequences also to be shot with IMAX cameras.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has signed on Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck to bring The Inhumans to fruition. Buck is best known for his work on the final three seasons of the showtime drama Dexter. While the last three seasons of Dexter weren’t the greatest, the decision to hire Buck signals a confidence in him. Marvel must be very satisfied with the Iron Fist series which makes it’s debut on Netflix March 17, 2017.

The official press release for The Inhumans describes the superhero team as a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers. The Inhumans were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965.

IMAX Doubles Down; Inhumans Has A Premiere Date

Two weeks ago Marvel announced a groundbreaking partnership between IMAX and Disney/ABC Television Group to bring Marvel’s The Inhumans to the small screen. In an unprecedented move, the series will first see a theatrical debut exclusively in IMAX theaters on Labor Day 2017 for the first two episodes shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Following the theatrical debut, ABC will capitalize on The Inhumans by premiering extended versions of the first two episodes before beginning its fall 2017 run. Currently, the series is capped at eight episodes with subsequent action sequences also to be shot with IMAX cameras.

Per a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, The Inhumans now has a premiere date. While speaking at the Credit Suisse Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, CEO of IMAX Entertainment Greg Foster revealed the series will debut on ABC on September 26, 2017, after hitting theaters on or around September 1.

Foster also shared some more major news, revealing that IMAX is doubling down with its entry into the world of television:

“This is at the high end of the range of what we’ll be doing, but we’re already looking for a second [series]. This is a really exciting opportunity that could blossom into more.”

Just what exactly could IMAX be looking to get involved with? While on the subject of The Inhumans Foster added:

“Hopefully this will spawn more seasons of the show, and opportunistically, we’re looking at other opportunities and programs that we can become part of.”

More Marvel shows seem like the smart and safe choice, especially given the success of Marvel’s foray into the darker, more mature superhero outings on Netflix. But the smarter move would be to hold back and see if their gamble pays off before greenlighting another series.

‘Rogue One’: Exclusive Look Plus A New Banner

Tonight on the Disney Magical Holiday Celebration, CEO Bob Iger introduced the world to an exclusive look at the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The exclusive look offers a few bits of never before seen footage including some hilarious beats with K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).

In addition, a new banner has also hit the web (h/t comicbookmovie). The banner features the heroes of the film as they are about to engage in the climactic battle with the Empire on Scariff.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16, 2016.

New Details on ‘Marvel’s The Inhumans’ Series Emerge

Last week Marvel dropped a huge surprise when it announced a partnership between IMAX and Disney/ABC TelevisionGroup to produce an Inhumans series. Marvel’s The Inhumans was originally announced as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a release date set for 2019, however. The film was quietly pulled from Marvel’s release calendar earlier this year.

Instead, Marvel will bring The Inhumans to the small screen but in an unprecedented move, the series will debut it’s first two episodes exclusively in IMAX theaters on Labor Day 2017 before beginning its fall run on ABC. The first two episodes will be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, IMAX is going to front the bill for the first two episodes, making the expensive production a more attractive deal to producers at ABC and Marvel Television. ABC will also be extending the first two episodes for broadcast, allowing ABC to capitalize on both the theatrical and television debuts. Action scenes of subsequent episodes will also be shot with IMAX cameras, as well as scenes that take place on the moon.

The series is currently capped at eight episodes, making it a limited run set to finish before the winter break. Marvel is going big with this series, in a way television has never seen before. They hope the series will lead to success and bring new viewers into its other show on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of Shield, which is currently airing its fourth season Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Vin Diesel Unlikely to Play Black Bolt in ‘Marvel’s The Inhumans’ TV Series

There’s no arguing that actor Vin Diesel would be a great choice to play Black Bolt in the live-action realization of Marvel’s The Inhumans. After the reveal The Inhumans would get their own feature film in phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Diesel teased the prospect of himself landing the role just a little over a year ago. Considering only his voice was used for Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, it seemed very possibly Diesel could get the gig, especially considering Black Bolt vowed never to speak so that he couldn’t lay waste with his devastating hypersonic voice. That is until now.

Earlier this week, Marvel announced their partnership with IMAX and Disney/ABC Television group to co-produce Marvel’s The Inhumans as a television series that will air on ABC instead of releasing a feature film in 2018. The series will make history as it will be the first ever series featuring the first two episodes shot entirely in IMAX, which are set to debut in theaters before the show begins its run on television in the fall of 2017.

During a Q&A on Facebook this past Wednesday, director of Guardians of the Galaxy himself, James Gunn, offered a very candid response when a fan asked whether or not Vin Diesel would still play the role of Black Bolt:

“The Inhumans is going to be a TV show. Unless Vin wants to take a huge pay cut and sign up to do a TV show it seems unlikely.”

Unfortunately, television is produced on the cheap and the reality is that the budget of a television series cannot measure up to provide salary level movie stars require. With Diesel more than likely out, this opens the doors back up to many possibilities as to who could fill the role. Who do you think would be a great fit for Black Bolt?

‘Marvel’s The Inhumans’ To Hit IMAX Theaters Before ABC Run

Rather than make their debut in phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvels The Inhumans is coming to television instead, however. In an unprecedented move, the show’s first two episodes will first premiere exclusively in IMAX theaters before beginning its first season on ABC in the fall of 2017.

This marks the first time a television show has had a theatrical debut in history as well as the first time IMAX has ever produced a television series. IMAX will partner with Marvel Television and Disney/ABC TelevisionGroup to bring the series to life after the film version was dropped from the MCU’s already crowded release calendar.

New ‘Rogue One’ Footage To Air During Disney Holiday Celebration
