After both Warcraft and Assassins Creed failed to live up to expectations of both fans and studio executives alike, we’re going to have to wait until 2018 for film adaptations of video games to have another chance at legitimizing themselves.
Thanks to a report per My Entertainment World (h/t Screenrant), we now know Roar Uthaugh (The Wave) is set to commence principal photography on the reboot for Tomb Raider next month starring academy award winner Alicia Vikander with filming taking place in the UK and South Africa.
The feature film reboot of the video game is set to be an origin story for Lara Croft that will draw influence from the 2013 reboot of the video game. Lara will set out on a quest to find her father that will force her to discover the courage within, becoming the heroic archaeologist we know as the Tomb Raider. Walton Goggins (Justified, Son of Anarchy) is also attached to star as the film’s antagonist.
Tomb Raider is currently slated to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
