‘Aquaman’ Adds Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master

Warner Bros. is continuing to bulk up the DCEU with A-list talent. Deadline reports Patrick Wilson will play the villainous Ocean Master in James Wan’s upcoming swashbuckling action adventure Aquaman.

In the comics, Orm Marius A.K.A. Ocean Master was fully human half-brother of Arthur Curry A.K.A. Aquaman. He turned nemesis after growing up in Arthur’s shadow, resenting him and turning to technology as a high-tech pirate first attacking ships at sea and later moving on to causing natural disasters in an attempt to hold the world ransom.

The choice to cast Wilson in the role is a safe move for Wan and Warner Brothers. The director and the studio has a long history working with Wilson as he has starred in both installments of the on-going Insidious and Conjuring franchises.

Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, will be the fifth outing in the DCEU. The character was first introduced in this year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and will also be featured as a main character in the upcoming Justice League. Wilson joins the cast which in addition to Momoa currently includes Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko. An official synopsis for the film has yet to be released.

Warner Bros. has deemed October 5, 2018, as a day worthy for the King of Atlantis to make his big splash in theaters. The film will be debut in both IMAX and 3D.

James Wan Teases Swashbuckling Action Adventure in ‘Aquaman’

Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment caught the world’s attention when it was announced that Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa would be starring in the title role of Aquaman. Add director James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) to the mix and you’ve got something that not even the disappointing Batman V. Superman could stop from making truckloads of money. Even the most vocal of the Batman V. Superman haters ready to hand over their hard-earned cash to see the former Khal Drago as the first ever on-screen King of the Sea (no, Vinnie Chase doesn’t count).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wan teased a swashbuckling action adventure quest story that is very much Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.

Wan also commented on what to expect from Aquaman and the recently revealed Amber Heard as Mera in the upcoming Justice League.

I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, are going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be. And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do.

It will be another year before we get to see Justice League and an even longer wait for Aquaman.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017 and Aquaman drops the following year on July 27, 2018.

‘Justice League’: Amber Heard as Mera Revealed

Warner Brothers has revealed the first look at Amber Heard as Mera in Justice League.

In an exclusive with IGN, Warner Brothers has revealed the first look at Amber Heard as Mera in Justice League as well as some concept art of the character for the film.

The costume itself is impressive. Not all costumes translate well from the page to the screen but Warner Brothers has done a killer job on Mera. Justice League will introduce Heard in the role and will later be featured in the upcoming Aquaman directed by James Wan.

In the comics, Mera was the underwater Queen of the otherworldly Dimension Aqua. After being deposed from her throne she sought the help of Aquaman and would later marry him and give birth to his son Arthur Curry, Jr. A.K.A. Aquababy.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.

NYCC 2016: ‘Justice League’ BTS Video

Warner Brothers has released an exciting behind the scenes look at the upcoming ‘Justice League’ to celebrate the film wrapping production. The studio has their work cut out for them as they attempt to win audiences back after the negative reception to Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. We’ve already gotten to see a trailer plus reports from the press from their set visit a few months ago. The trailer plus this new behind the scenes look indicates a lighter tone and a general sense of the film being more fun than the dark and dire tone of the previous entries to the D.C. extended universe.

Check out the video below. There looks to be some great action and the cast looks like they had a blast making the film. It’s also nice to see the entire crew recognized for their hard work at the end. I don’t know about you, but this actually gets me excited to see the film now.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Solo Batman Film Not Yet Titled

It turns out the solo Batman film in development over at Warner Brothers is not yet officially titled ‘The Batman’. Ben Affleck clarified the statements he made the other day in a Facebook Live interview for his new film The Accountant  with E! News:

I mentioned the other day… it’s been around for a long time, but the movie… there is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff. And someone said, ‘what are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, back when we were promoting another movie, I was like ‘we don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the name of his Batman movie.

This is a bummer as the title ‘The Batman’ would be a perfect antidote to the overloaded title Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

At this point the only thing that seems certain is that the film’s villain is set to be Slade Wilson A.K.A. Deathstroke. Recently Affleck tweeted out a visual effects test video on his twitter account featuring the supervillain. It is rumored he will be played by Joseph Manganiello.

Deathstroke belonged to a special operations unit before he turned mercenary. He possesses super human strength, speed, and intelligence. The character was most recently popularized by Manu Bennett on The CW’s Arrow which saw him also gain the ability of rapid cellular regeneration via a miracle drug called ‘Mirakuru.’ Bennett’s portrayal of Deathstroke took Arrow to new heights and was also the series’ most popular season. The surge in the characters popularity also spawned a Deathstroke run in DC’s rebooted comic book universe, The New 52.
