Yesterday, we got our first look at the official trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the classic anime, Ghost in the Shell, which is set to release this Sunday, November 13th.
Yesterday, Paramount Pictures released a trailer teaser for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic anime Ghost in the Shell. The first official trailer will make it’s debut this Sunday, November 13th. But to hold us over until then, Entertainment Tonight has released a behind the scenes look at featuring the filming of a scene that many will recognize from the anime when Motoko A.K.A. The Major (Scarlett Johannson) and Batou (Pilou Asbaek) stop a garbage truck driving Ghost who has been hacked by the Puppet Master.
The film has been under major scrutiny since it was announced Johannson would star in the role of The Major, a Japanese character in the anime — and while diversity continues to be a major issue in Hollywood — it’s also important to reserve judgment until you have seen the movie.
So far, the film looks visually spectacular and we all know how fantastic Johansson is as Black Widow. Hopefully, the film will give a reason for Motoko being an American so that it doesn’t come off as blatant whitewashing (even though it is). The film’s director, Rupert Sanders, doesn’t have the best track record either so it’s probably best to keep expectations low in order for us to be pleasantly surprised if the film turns out good, which at this point seems promising. It’s good to see the nineties influence is present in the costume design and the vehicles featured in the film as well.
The film produced by Paramount Pictures stars Scarlett Johannson, Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt,Juliette Binoche, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo with a script penned by Jamie Moss, directed by Rupert Sanders.
Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31, 2017.
