‘Rogue One’: “Living in Star Wars” Featurette

The marketing barrage for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is not letting up. Ramping up the film’s release in under three weeks, Lucasfilm has released another behind the scenes featurette which spotlights actor Diego Luna who plays the rebel recruiter Captain Cassian Andor. Luna describes how special it is for him to be involved in the franchise having grown up a fan while promising both heart, heroics, and adventure in the first standalone feature of Star Wars. The featurette offers glimpses of every shooting location in the film as well as a few new shots from when Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO infiltrate the Imperial base on Scariff.

‘Rogue One’ Tickets Now Available

The day has finally come! Pre-sale tickets for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are now available. To celebrate, Lucasfilm dropped another TV spot right at midnight officially announcing the availability of pre-sale tickets. Chances are if you are reading this, tickets have already sold out in your area.

The latest TV spot gives us new glimpses of the Death Star, what appears to be the destruction of Jedha, and new shots from the climactic battle on Scariff. The presence of Vader looms over the spot with the sound of his breath coming from his respirator. It all leads up to the screams of war followed by a hammering version of the Imperial March.

This weekend also saw the confirmation of the film’s runtime at 133 minutes via Lucasfilm creative executive Pablo Hidalgo. The film falls right in the middle of runtimes for Star Wars films. Episodes IV-VI clocked in at 121, 124, and 131 minutes. The prequel trilogy ran slightly longer with runtimes for Episodes I-III at 133, 142, and 140 minutes. Episode VII, the first film in this new era of Star Wars, had a runtime of 135 minutes.

‘Rogue One’ Press Conference; Two New TV Spots Released

The marketing campaign for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in full swing. Yesterday the official press tour for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off began in Mexico with a press conference featuring director Garreth Edwards and the leads of the film, Felicity Jones and Diego Luna. Jones describes how the set managed to have an intimate feel even with the scope and scale of a Star Wars film, not to mention the pressure of being the first standalone feature in the franchise.

Today Lucasfilm has released two new TV spots for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off. The spot titled “Time to Fight” offers a new glimpse of the epic climactic battle on Scarrif and has a different delivery of the already iconic line “I rebel” from Jones as Jyn Erso.

The second spot “Contact” dives into the relationship between Jyn and her father Galen (Mads Mikkelsen), clueing us a bit more into the history between the two. Check out the spots and the full press conference below!

‘Rogue One’ Not To Include Opening Crawl

During this past year’s Star Wars Celebration in London, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy stated that she and the producing team behind the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story were considering whether or not to open the Star Wars spin-off with the iconic opening crawl featured in every Star Wars film yet.

In an attempt to differentiate itself from the Skywalker saga, Lucasfilm has opted to open to forego the bombastic opening and give the film a more traditional opening. Kennedy told Variety:

“We felt that’s so indicative of what those saga films are. Initially, we probably will begin the film in a way that is traditional, with just the title.”

While I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Kennedy, the superstar producer whose credits include films such as ET, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future, I think this is a major mistake on her and Lucasfilm’s part. No doubt, Rogue One needs to stand out from the Skywalker film as it is to be a much darker chapter in the Star Wars universe. A war film to be exact. But the way in which the film should differentiate is not in the opening credits, but the actual film itself.

I’m not one to buy into the fear from the infamous reshoots, but this news along with Michael Giacchino replacing Alexandre Desplat as the film’s composer has me a bit unnerved. I won’t let it affect my excitement for the release of the film, though. I will be there opening night along with many other die hard Star Wars fans stuffing my face with popcorn and Reeses Pieces.

Pre-sale tickets are currently still unavailable. My expectation is that pre-sale tickets will go on sale during Thanksgiving this week when Lucasfilm debuts a new featurette during the Disney Magical Holiday Celebration on ABC.

‘Rogue One’: TV Spots “Jyn & Cassian” and “Protect”

The force is strong with the marketing push for the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm is dropping one TV spot after another right now. This morning two new spots hit the web. Each putting the spotlight on the friendships between the heroes of the Rogue One team. First up is “Jyn & Cassian” which offers a look at the bravery the two unlikely heroes possess. The second spot released titled “Protect” showcases footage from previously trailers but gives us a bit more of when Baze fires his rocket launcher at an AT-ACT. The spot also features a quick beat that displays the hilarious dynamic between Chirrut and Baze.

‘Rogue One’ TV Spot Leaves The Rebels Without A Choice; UK Tickets On Sale Tomorrow

Another TV spot for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has hit the web. This time Lucasfilm spotlights the call to action forced upon the Rebellion in light of the looming threat that is the Death Star. The spot doesn’t feature any substantial new footage but it does deliver an awesome shot of an X-Wing barrel rolling through an explosion in the climactic space battle over Scariff.

The spot made its debut on the official UK twitter account for the film along with the announcement that pre-sale tickets will officially go on sale in the UK tomorrow. Pre-sale tickets have yet to become available in the United States but I would be ready at the computer on November 24, at 8 pm. ET/PT. During the Disney Magical Holiday Celebration on ABC, we will get an exclusive look at Rogue One in what will most likely be a very short featurette offering a few glimpses of new footage interlaced with interviews from the cast. Chances are tickets will go on sale then as it would be a perfect opportunity to make the announcement while families are together celebrating Thanksgiving.

‘Rogue One’ TV Spot #7; Officially Rated PG-13

The latest TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story offers a few glimpses at new footage but offers nothing substantial. What’s important about this spot is that it reveals the film has been officially rated PG-13. Considering this is supposed to be a war film and a darker entry into the Star Wars franchise it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. This marks the third Star Wars film to be rated PG-13 along with Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens.

Pre-sale tickets have yet to become available but I would be ready at the computer on November 24, at 8 pm. ET/PT. Two New ‘Rogue One’ International TV Spots; New Dolby Cinema Poster

In addition to the featurette released by Lucasfilm today for the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, two new TV spots from Japan have hit the web. Each of them serves to spotlight Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) individually. While there is no new footage in the spots, nor do we learn anything new about Jyn, the spot for Cassian offers some new insight into his character as a recruiter for the Rebel Alliance.

Along with the new TV spots, two new posters have also made their way online this week including an official IMAX poster as well as an exclusive poster from Dolby Cinemas which was originally released as the Russian poster for the film.
