Just last Friday it was announced via the Star Wars Instagram account that the tremendously talented Donald Glover had officially been cast in the role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming ‘Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story’.

Yesterday the writer, actor, director, rapper and performer stopped by The Ellen Show to talk the honor of landing the part of Lando as well as his hit series Atlanta which is currently in its first season airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. Glover reveals — in what seems all too perfect — exactly what his first-ever toy was and mentions his mother’s hilarious reaction to learning her son would be portraying a younger Billy Dee Williams than we were introduced to in The Empire Strikes Back.

While I am extremely excited to see in what seems like destiny with Glover in the role of the smooth-talking smuggler, I’m most looking forward to the original layers Glover will no doubt add to the character. Getting to see a younger, possibly less smooth Lando is going to be a treat as he will most likely lose the Millenium Falcon to Han Solo, but to have Glover playing the part feels too good to be true. Filming is set to begin sometime this January at Pinewood Studios in the UK. Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in the film written by Lawrence Kasdan and son, Jon Kasdan and directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (The Lego Movie).

The Untitled Star Wars Story hits theaters May 25, 2018.
