Woody Harrelson Confirms His Role as a Mentor to Han Solo

Just yesterday, Woody Harrelson officially joined the cast of the young Han Solo film which is getting underway at Pinewood studios in London. The actor has been rumored to play a character who serves as a mentor to the slimy no good swindler but until now that has remained just a rumor.

In a recent chat with Mashable on Facebook, Harrelson confirmed he would indeed be a mentor to Solo but also revealed a new tidbit regarding the character:

“I’m a mentor to Han, but I’m also a bit of a criminal. I don’t think I should say much more than that because the Force is not allowing me.”

Harrelson joins the cast with Alden Ehrenreich starring as the young Han Solo as well as Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke also joined the cast recently in a role that is still currently unknown. President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has described the young Han Solo film as a western with a color palette influenced by the paintings of Frederic Remington. The script has been penned by Star Wars writing veteran Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. With cinematographer Bradford Young on board, the film has the potential to have a bold look and feel that could strike a perfect balance between humor and drama.

The Untitled Han Solo Story is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018, however, there is a rumor the film could be shifted to December 13, 2018.

Woody Harrelson Officially Joins Young Han Solo Movie

Just last week, THR reported Woody Harrelson was in talks with Lucasfilm to join the Young Han Solo standalone feature which will begin filming next month at Pinewood studios. Lucasfilm has now confirmed Harrelson has indeed been cast in the project. His role, however, is still unknown but the rumor is that Harrelson will play a character that serves as a mentor to the young Solo played by Alden Ehrenreich.

The film’s directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller released a statement regarding the casting of Harrelson:

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”

The cast also includes Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke in a role that is still currently unknown.

The Untitled Han Solo Story is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018, however, there is a rumor the film could be shifted to Holiday 2018. MakingStarWars.net claims to have a source in the theater industry that has received a release date for a Star Wars film on December 13, 2018. While May was the home of Star Wars for many decades, Star Wars has become part of the holiday season in the new era of the franchise.

Harrelson would be an incredible addition to what Kathleen Kennedy has described as a western with a color palette influenced by the paintings of Frederic Remington. Ehrenreich stars alongside Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke in a role that is currently unknown.

The film will be directed by The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with a script penned by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. With cinematographer Bradford Young on board, the film has the potential to have a bold look and feel that could strike a perfect balance between humor and drama.

The Untitled Han Solo Story is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018, however, it’s possible the film could be shifted to Holiday 2018. MakingStarWars.net claims to have a source in the theater industry that has received a release date for a Star Wars for December 13, 2018. While May was the home of Star Wars for many decades, Star Wars has become part of the holiday season in the new era and my hope is that it will continue. As a long time Star Wars fan, the return of the franchise has made my Christmas celebration even more special with my family these last two years.

A few weeks ago Variety reported a shortlist of actresses circling the film’s female lead including Tessa Thompson (Creed), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), and Zoe Kravitz, however. It would seem Lucasfilm has gone a different direction adding Clarke into the mix which already includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian.

The film will be directed by The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with a script penned by Lawrence Kasdan. Filming is set to being sometime in early 2017.

The young Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018.

Donald Glover Talks Landing Lando

Yesterday the writer, actor, director, rapper and performer stopped by The Ellen Show to talk the honor of landing the part of Lando as well as his hit series Atlanta which is currently in its first season airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

Just last Friday it was announced via the Star Wars Instagram account that the tremendously talented Donald Glover had officially been cast in the role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming ‘Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story’.

Yesterday the writer, actor, director, rapper and performer stopped by The Ellen Show to talk the honor of landing the part of Lando as well as his hit series Atlanta which is currently in its first season airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. Glover reveals — in what seems all too perfect — exactly what his first-ever toy was and mentions his mother’s hilarious reaction to learning her son would be portraying a younger Billy Dee Williams than we were introduced to in The Empire Strikes Back.

While I am extremely excited to see in what seems like destiny with Glover in the role of the smooth-talking smuggler, I’m most looking forward to the original layers Glover will no doubt add to the character. Getting to see a younger, possibly less smooth Lando is going to be a treat as he will most likely lose the Millenium Falcon to Han Solo, but to have Glover playing the part feels too good to be true. Filming is set to begin sometime this January at Pinewood Studios in the UK. Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in the film written by Lawrence Kasdan and son, Jon Kasdan and directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (The Lego Movie).

The Untitled Star Wars Story hits theaters May 25, 2018.

JJ Abrams Talks Kylo Ren and That Heartbreaking Scene

Ahead of the 3D collector’s edition blu-ray release for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm has released a clip from the film’s commentary track via USA Today that features director JJ Abrams providing his thoughts on the film’s pivotal scene which cemented Ben Solo’s journey to the dark side.

People have asked me if I think that Kylo Ren was just playing with him the whole time if he meant to kill him from the beginning, and the truth is I think that Kylo Ren in this moment is actually being convinced to walk away from this. Snoke is, as Han says, using him and I think that somewhere Ben knows this.

You can listen to the full clip here.

Ben absolutely knows that Snoke is using him for his power. Snoke is terrified of Luke Skywalker and knows the only chance he stands at defeating the Jedi Master is by using someone else in his bloodline against him. Only a Skywalker can defeat a Skywalker. Ben was on the edge the whole time as he felt drawn back towards the light throughout the film. But as it has been mentioned in the new canon novels, Snoke saw Vader’s final choice to turn back to the light and save his only son as the mistake that doomed the Empire.

Ben was on the edge the whole time as he felt drawn back towards the light throughout the film. But as it has been mentioned in the new canon novels, Snoke saw Vader’s final choice to turn back to the light and save his only son as the mistake that doomed the Empire. Ultimately, I don’t think Ben wanted to make the same mistake.

We know that Ben didn’t learn the truth about his grandfather until he was at least in his early twenties which is still a very impressionable age. Given that Ben resents his parents for their absence in his younger years and for being sent off to train to become a Jedi with his Uncle, it would make sense for Ben to latch onto a figure of such power in his family.

What we still don’t know is how exactly Snoke seduced Ben to the dark side. But one thing is for sure whether he was on the edge or not, his choice to kill his father and extinguish the light within him solidified his commitment to the dark side.

The 3D collectors edition of The Force Awakens hits shelves November 15.

Young Han Solo Tests Female Lead

Three months ago Alden Ehrenreich was confirmed to star in the second Star Wars spin-off as Han Solo himself. Variety now reports that Lucasfilm is currently circling three different actresses for the films female lead.

Tessa Thompson (Creed), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), and Zoe Kravitz are all said to be in London testing for the film right now. The film will be directed by The Lego Movie  directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with a script penned by Lawrence Kasdan. Filming is set to being sometime in early 2017.

Tessa Thompson had a break out performance in last year’s Rocky sequel/reboot Creed and will also be seen in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Given that she is already a part of the Disney family it seems likely she will land the role.

With Thompson and Kravitz in the mix, it’s possible they could be up for the role of Sana Starros. Sana is a human smuggler who made her first appearance in the 4th issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic series. She claimed she was married to Han although he denied it.

It is also rumored that Donald Glover could be playing the role of Lando Calrissian, however. It is still unclear where Lucasfilm is at with the casting process for Lando. Apparently Glover already tested for the role but they wanted him to go back in for an additional round of testing. That shouldn’t come as any surprise though, we are talking about Lando Calrissian. These actors go through multiple screen tests before they’re cast in the roles. In press interviews last December, actor John Boyega spoke about the long and arduous audition process he went through before cast in the role as Finn in Episode VII.

The young Han Solo Star Wars spin-off is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.
