‘The Defenders’ Unite on EW Cover; First Look at Sigourney Weaver

Summer 2017 is already going to be one of the biggest summer movie seasons in history with epic blockbusters featuring superheroes, aliens, monsters, super intelligent apes, and even a war film to boot but the movie theater won’t be the only place to catch some ass-kicking entertainment. This week’s Entertainment Weekly cover story features the first behind the scenes look at Marvel’s The Defenders filming the first scene that features them all coming together and while the article doesn’t give us much information regarding the plot, it does confirm the series will debut on Netflix sometime during the summer.

The only bit of information we get from the article is that for at least the first half of the season the series will follow Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage separately. Marco Ramirez, showrunner for The Defenders told EW:

“Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York. We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?’”

It’s an interesting and fresh way to form the unlikely superhero team. These characters like to operate independently in the shadows of New York City and it will take a serious threat to unite the heroes (not for hire). While we still don’t know exactly what the threat is, EW teases the scene being filmed takes place at the offices at Midland Circle. The same location where Daredevil and Elektra discovered the giant hole in the ground in season two.

How the storyline for The Defenders will be connected to The Hand remains a mystery, however, we do know the main villain played by Sigourney Weaver will figure into that somehow. While her role is still a mystery, EW also has the exclusive first look at her character. Ramirez wouldn’t reveal anything concrete but offered some teases calling her an “utter badass,” and that:

“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”

The series will see the return of many cast members from the Netflix corner of the MCU including Elodie Yung (Elektra), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), Scott Glenn (Stick), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker) and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing) who will be introduced in the upcoming Iron Fist series this March.

The Defenders stars Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.

The Defenders hits Netflix sometime in the summer of 2017.

‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 Officially Announced

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-5-28-57-pm

(SPOILERS FOR SEASON ONE AHEAD, OBVIOUSLY)

In the closing moments of the first season of Luke Cage, Luke (Mike Colter) was being carted off to prison after his true identity was revealed to the world. We knew it would only be a matter of time before his innocence was proven after Bobby Fish found the documents that would clear his name in Pop’s Barbershop. But in Luke Cage, the bad guys can win. And they did win. It’s obvious Luke has unfinished business with Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) at the end of the series so a second season featuring Marvel’s hero of Harlem seemed a no-brainer.

Today, Marvel made it official, taking to Facebook and Twitter to announce the culturally relevant series will indeed return for a second season. Unfortunately, a release date has not been set but we can rest assured Luke will be back to help accelerate the demise of the self-destructive villains of Harlem most likely sometime in 2018.

Luke will next be seen in 2017 when the team-up series, The Defenders hits Netflix. The series pits the street level heroes of the Netflix corner of the Marvel cinematic universe against a villainous Sigourney Weaver whose role is still a mystery.

Luke Cage season one is currently available for streaming on Netflix.

The series stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Rosario Dawson, Frank Whaley, Theo Rossi, Erik LaRay Harvey, and Alfre Woodard. Executive Produced by Cheo Hodari Coker.

‘The Defenders’ Set Photos Reveal Steamy Reunion

The contents of this article may be considered SPOILERS. You’ve been warned!

The contents of this article may be considered SPOILERS. You’ve been warned!

Luke Cage (Mike Colter) has had several romantic ties with the women of the Netflix corner of the MCU since his introduction in last year’s Jessica Jones. But neither his relationship with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) nor his fling with Misty Knight (Simone Missick) can compare to the connection he made with Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). Since their reunion in season one of Luke Cage, we watched the two fall for each other as Luke battled for Harlem’s soul.

At the end of season one of Luke Cage, Luke was being carted off to prison after his true identity was outed. But as we saw Bobby Fish (Ron Cephas Jones) found the documents that will help clear Luke’s name so it’s only a matter of time before Claire takes those documents to her lawyer pal Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to free Luke from prison.

Netflix is currently filming The Defenders on location in New York City. In case you don’t know, The Defenders is a team-up series that will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist put their resources together to take on a villainous Sigourney Weaver who’s character still remains a mystery. The series will serve as a follow-up to all of Marvel’s Netflix series including Iron Fist which will make it’s debut this March.

Thanks to NetflixDefenders, a Tumblr account dedicated to The Defenders, we have a look at some steamy set photos revealing what is most likely the reunion of Luke and Claire after Lukes return to New York City from prison.

The series will see the return of many cast members from the Netflix corner of the MCU including Elodie Yung (Elektra), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), Scott Glenn (Stick), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker) and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing).

The Defenders stars Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.
