‘Power Rangers’ Officially Rated PG-13

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-2-12-50-pm

The upcoming feature film reboot of the Fox Kids series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is a major departure from the original series. It is essentially a total reimagining featuring a much darker and more mature take as opposed to the colorful and campy children’s series.

Power Rangers Now has reported that the film has officially received a PG-13 rating. As we have seen the in the trailer, the film with real teenage issues such as bullying as the characters struggle to find their place in the world.

After an incredible teaser trailer that got the world’s attention, myself and many fans have begun to temper their excitement having yet to see a full trailer that features the Rangers in their full suits and in action with their Zords with only two months left to go until the film’s release. But chances Lionsgate is saving the premiere of the official trailer until the Superbowl when they’ll have the chance to capture the world’s attention once more.

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.

The film stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger), Becky G as Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor (Black Ranger), Bill Hader as Alpha 5, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

First Look at Bryan Cranston as Zordon in ‘Power Rangers’

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-2-12-50-pm

The upcoming film reboot for Power Rangers which features an alien like redesign for all of the characters in a darker, more mature take on the franchise has so far offered us looks at the new suits, Zords, and villains in almost every single way but in the film except for Rita Repulsa. We’ve gotten posters featuring the new suits and Zords, images of the new toys revealing Goldar and the new Putties, but until now we have yet to see the new look for Zordon who is played by Bryan Cranston.

The new design for Zordon has come through a rather potato quality photo of a phone demoing the new virtual reality experience from Lionsgate for the film which will make its debut tomorrow at CES in Las Vegas. While most of the designs have been major departures from the original series, the new look for Zordon is much more familiar and for the most part just looks like Bryan Cranston with a blue face.

As I’ve said before, I am beginning to lose confidence in the film. After getting the world’s attention with a fantastic teaser trailer, Lionsgate has revealed nothing else from the film except for a rather cloudy poster of the new Zords. The studio needs to get moving on the marketing campaign because at this point I would venture to say the average moviegoer has no idea this film is even coming out.

‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Starts Filming Next Month

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-2-58-07-pm

After both Warcraft and Assassins Creed failed to live up to expectations of both fans and studio executives alike, we’re going to have to wait until 2018 for film adaptations of video games to have another chance at legitimizing themselves.

Thanks to a report per My Entertainment World (h/t Screenrant), we now know Roar Uthaugh (The Wave) is set to commence principal photography on the reboot for Tomb Raider next month starring academy award winner Alicia Vikander with filming taking place in the UK and South Africa.

The feature film reboot of the video game is set to be an origin story for Lara Croft that will draw influence from the 2013 reboot of the video game. Lara will set out on a quest to find her father that will force her to discover the courage within, becoming the heroic archaeologist we know as the Tomb Raider. Walton Goggins (Justified, Son of Anarchy) is also attached to star as the film’s antagonist.

Tomb Raider is currently slated to hit theaters March 16, 2018.

‘Power Rangers’ Plot Details Emerge: Rita Repulsa is a Former Green Ranger Gone Rogue

Screen Shot 2016-12-10 at 1.09.47 PM.png

New details on the plot of the upcoming reboot of Power Rangers have emerged. The film itself is a darker, more mature reimagining the colorful campy children’s series from the nineties. Along with a total redesign of the Rangers’ suits came a new look for the villainous alien invader hell bent on world domination Rita Repulsa. Considering the series has always used colors to distinguish the rangers from one another, myself and many began to speculate that Rita’s new green and gold suit could signal that she was harnessing the power of the dragon coin which she had given to Tommy Oliver in the original series, transforming him into the Green ranger to help her take on the Power Rangers.

According to The Wrap, Rita Repulsa is, in fact, harnessing the dragon coin as she is the former Green Ranger gone rogue. In the film, Rita will be attempting to resurrect her lackey Goldar after he was vaporized into microscopic gold particles many centuries ago. It seems the film will be also pulling elements other versions other than Mighty Morphin Power Rangers including Power Rangers Zeo. In this new version, Goldar was created with the purpose of stealing the Zeo crystal, the artifact which the Rangers’ power stems from. The film will inject a ticking clock as the rangers will only have 71 hours to stop her. My bet is on them failing and Rita supersizing Goldar to give the Rangers an opportunity to use the Megazord in battle. Rita will be trying to deliver the Zeo crystal to Mighty Morphin’s other major villain, her master Lord Zedd.

The putty patrol will also be on hand as the report states they will appear in multiple action sequences including a bank heist in Russia.

The film seems to be retooling the origin of Zordon as well. In the original series, Zordon created the Power Morphers after he was trapped him in a time warp. The report also states that in the film, Zordon was the original red Ranger before being trapped in a state of pure energy.

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.

The film stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger), Becky G as Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor (Black Ranger), Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader as Alpha 5, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

Rita Repulsa is Back in a New ‘Power Rangers’ Photo

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-2-12-50-pm

The feature film reboot of the Fox Kids series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is a major departure from the original series, featuring a much darker and more mature take as opposed to the colorful and campy children’s series. Power Rangers features an overhaul of the suits worn by the Rangers as well as the alien invader, hell bent on world domination Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks).

Repulsa is making her return to Earth, beginning her plot for world domination, making her first step as she takes over the Rangers Twitter and Instagram accounts today. The new image see’s Repulsa in her new green costume with her redesigned staff. What’s interesting about Repulsa green costume is that Power Rangers has always used the colored suits to differentiate the Rangers from one another while in battle.

In the original series, the villainous Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank) originally sported a green suit with gold accents which he harnessed from the dragon power coin, given to him by Repulsa in order to help her defeat the Rangers. With the green ranger absent from the upcoming reboot, and Repulsa sporting a green suit herself, it’s possible that Repulsa could be harnessing the dragon power coin herself.

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.

The film stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger), Becky G as Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor (Black Ranger), Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and Bill Hader as Alpha 5.

The series about lifeguards shot on location on the beaches of Santa Monica, CA which debuted in 1989 was a major hit. Baywatch starred Knight Rider himself, David Hasselhoff, A.K.A. ‘Escape From New York’ Reboot Details Emerge

screen-shot-2016-12-02-at-5-40-28-pm

Snake Plissken might be returning to the silver screen. But chances are he won’t be played by Kurt Russell this time around. John Carpenter’s Escape From New York first introduced the former-Special Forces operator turned criminal as he was sentenced to New York maximum security prison, which was the entire island of Manhatten surrounded by an impenetrable wall. The prison itself had fallen into anarchy with the inmates led by the Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes). At the same time, Air Force One was hijacked and crashed into Manhatten. The president himself, played by Donald Pleasance, survived but was then captured by the Duke. Snake was offered a full pardon if he rescued the President who was in possession of technical information that would solidify the United States position as the dominant world power, however. After 24 hours the technical information would become useless. To crank up the tension another notch, Snake was implanted with a microscopic device that would detonate at the end of the 24 hour period.

Snake later returned in Escape From LA, which was basically a rehash of the first film that saw snake sent to the island of Los Angeles which had broken off from the coast of California after a major earthquake. The city then became a haven for criminals and the vilest people of society. Snake was sent in to retrieve a disk which controlled several EMP satellites from the First Daughter who had betrayed her country and sought refuge in Los Angeles. The film itself was horrible and the character of Snake dwindled in popularity after the film’s release.

According to The Wrap, Fox is looking to hit the reset button offering Snake a chance at redemption. Fox has brought on Luther creator Neal Cross to pen the script with John Carpenter serving as an executive producer. The film will be a major departure from the original as it will swap the dystopian setting of New York for a futuristic New York that is automated by an artificial intelligence who appears as a young ethnically ambiguous woman named April. The reboot also takes the concept of a criminal-controlled city and turns it on its head, putting the world outside of New York in chaos. In this version, one out of every seventy-five people is either a refugee, internally displaced, or seeking asylum.

Rather than having a defacto leader of prisoners serve as the villain, instead, there will be the character of Thomas Newton, the heir to an agrochemical and biotech corporation. And rather than having 24 hours, Snake will have 11 hours to infiltrate New York and bring in Newton alive. But an Escape film needs another element to crank up the tension and drive the plot. Instead of Snake being implanted with a microscopic explosive, this time a major hurricane called Superstorm Ellery is headed for New York.

The film will also give Snake the first name of Robert, becoming Robert “Snake” Pliskin. But that’s just a bit too much exposition no one will care about in the end.

The reboot itself does sound promising in that it’s not a total rehash of the original. Having a talented writer such as Neal Cross on board signals Fox actually cares about the quality of the film and isn’t only concerned about making a disingenuous cash grab.

Who will play Snake remains a mystery but Charlie Hunnam is rumored to be attached.

Currently, the reboot does not have a release date.

New Look At Rita Repulsa in ‘Power Rangers’ Features Redesigned Staff

The feature film reboot for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is just under five months away from its debut. The new film is a major departure from the colorful and campy original Fox Kids series as it features a much darker and mature tone. Not only did Power Rangers drop Mighty Morphin from the title, it has swapped the sunny California setting of Angel Grove for the dreary atmosphere of Vancouver. All of the characters in the reboot have been redesigned from the ground up in appearance while remaining true to the core of the original personalities of their predecessors. Power Rangers features newly designed suits worn by the Rangers as well as Megazords that possess a much more Japanese aesthetic than the suits and Megazords from the nineties.

The nemesis of the Rangers is Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks), an evil witch hell bent on galactic domination. The look for Repulsa has also been redesigned in the upcoming reboot. As I have pointed out on this site before, I find it quite curious that Repulsa sports a green suit in the new film as opposed to her brown robe costume from the original series. Saban has always used the Rangers’ colors to distinguish one Ranger from another and being that in the original series Repulsa was in possession of the Green Ranger’s power coin, it has me wondering if Repulsa is harnessing the power of the coin herself to take on Zordon and his teenagers with attitude.

So far the marketing campaign for Power Rangers has delivered a teaser trailer and images of the newly designed suits for the characters. The designs for the Megazords have been revealed through images from the film’s toyline. But we have yet to see them in their full CG glory.

Today we have a new image that was posted to the film’s Instagram account giving us an official look at the staff wielded by Rita Repulsa. The caption teases that the origin of the character will stay true to the original series which opened with Repulsa making her escape from captivity when two astronauts exploring the moon discovered and removed the lid off of a space dumpster.
