Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn’t swing into theaters until July 7, 2017, but with the Marvel/Sony joint production set to make truckloads of money, and a planned trilogy already in the works, the studios are wasting no time prepping the sequel to what could be Summer 2017’s biggest blockbuster.

Marvel’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War. Next summer the web crawler slings into theaters in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first standalone film featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. The film follows Peter as he balances his dual identity of a budding superhero while he navigates the everyday life of a teenager in high school. It will also introduce The Vulture (Michael Keaton), who finally makes his debut on the silver screen after having been rumored to appear in a Spider-Man film since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
The domestic trailer made its debut tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live and an international trailer has been released as well (via Joblo).
An exclusive photo featuring an unmasked Peter has also been released via USA Today.

The major films releasing next summer are all premiering their trailers in time to run next week when the Star Wars spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters and Marvel/Sony is making no exception with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Sony Pictures revealed a teaser of the web-slinger who first made his debut in Captain America: Civil War this past weekend at CCXP and now that teaser has hit the web. The teaser reveals Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) giving Peter (Tom Holland) a case from Tony Stark which contains the the web wings upgrade for his suit.The web wings were first seen when Spider-Man made his very first debut in Amazing Fantasy #15.
The official trailer for the film will make its debut tomorrow night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently looming over the internet. The trailer which is attached to the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is expected to hit the web before Rogue One hits theaters onDecember 16th. But ahead of the trailer, Marvel casually unveiled a clip from the film at the CCXP convention in Brazil.

The Spider-Man Homecoming footage was short but AWESOME. Starts from Spidey’s POV, talking with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). There’s a case from Tony Stark with an “upgrade” for Spidey. Then we see Spidey leap off a building, open his arms, web wings! There were a few more flashes of shots, but I can’t remember. That classic underarm webbing look was just so rad.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is no doubt the most anticipated movie of summer 2017. After the introduction of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Captain America: Civil War, fans have been clamoring for the new version of the webheads first solo feature. The lucky few who attended San Diego Comic Con were treated to footage showcasing Peter navigating the world of high school as well as the reveal of the film’s villain, The Vulture, played by Michael Keaton. But for the rest of us, we’ve only gotten mere table scraps in the form of some set photos snapped while the production was filming on location in New York City but it seems that might change when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters next month on December 16.
According to Comicbook, sources close to the production claim that the first official trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming will be attached to Rogue One. Sony did not respond to Comicbook‘s request for comment but the timing makes total sense. The film will still be 8 months from release, however. Much of Marvel’s target audience, as well as general audiences, will be rushing out to the theater to see Jyn Erso lead a band of rebel spies as they steal the plans for the original Death Star. It will be the perfect opportunity to tantalize Spidey fans while getting the most exposure possible.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to stay focused on Peter Parker in the earliest of his formative years as he struggles to find his purpose, balancing his life as a young superhero and at the same time dealing with the average, everyday pressures all teenagers endure. Along the way, the film will feature several of Peter’s friends and foes accompanying him on his journey including singer-actress Zendaya as Michelle, although she is heavily rumored to be the new Mary-Jane Watson, as well as Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as Parkers notorious bully Flash Thompson.
In an interview with KHON 2 News, actor Jacob Batalon has confirmed his role as Ned Leeds, Peters best friend in the upcoming film. In the comics, Ned Leeds was first introduced as a co-worker of Peter’s at the Daily Bugle, only for him to later become a criminal mastermind and take on the persona of Hobgoblin. Since the film will take place with Peter in high school, Ned’s character has been retooled to fit into the new film version of Spider-Man from Marvel and Sony.
Batalon:
Well, Ned Leeds; I play Peter Parker’s best friend in the film. We are both in high school. We are about fifteen. And it’s just about Peter dealing with being a superhero and going through puberty. He still has to worry about homework. He still has to worry about his crush liking him, while trying to save someone who’s probably in a burning building. He can’t tell anyone because he’s not the cool kid, so he’s just stuck with this really cool life that he can’t tell anyone about.
An official synopsis for the film has still yet to be released so it’s hard to speculate as to which comic storyline the film will take influence from. The only thing we know for sure is that tonally, the film will take influence from the teen comedies by John Hughes in the 80’s.

This week’s cover story for The Hollywood Reporter features Holland in the spotlight and the charming talent reveals some interesting information about his contract with Marvel and the direction Spidey is headed within the MCU.
It’s a big morning for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The web-slinger made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this past summer in Captain America: Civil War. While I can still remember the incredible experience I had seeing Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man in theaters like it was yesterday, the moment I saw Tom Holland appear on-screen in the Civil War, it hit me like a truck: for the first time ever I was seeing the real Peter Parker.
Hollands performance was universally praised by critics and fans alike. It was a much-needed win for Marvel (and Sony) after not one, but two Spider-Man franchises fell apart across town in Culver City, California. Sony wasn’t ready to relinquish the rights back over to Marvel Studios but the two were able to find a common ground. Marvel would produce the film and Sony would distribute while maintaining final approval on the creative direction of the project.

They give you options and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies, though. I do know I have three Spider-Man [appearances in other] movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.
So far, Holland has one appearance and one solo feature under his belt. Marvel currently has the next two Avengers films in development, the first of which, Avengers Infinity War begins shooting this spring. With two more appearances currently written into Hollands contract at this point, it would seem likely he will appear in at least one of the next two Avengers films.
Actress, singer, and dancer Zendaya is set to make her American silver-screen debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming. There has been a lot of speculation on the internet as to who she would be playing after her character was revealed to be named Michelle, which many thought to be a misdirect to conceal her role as Mary Jane Watson. After a photo posted to Instagram revealed the actress with red hair, the internet exploded with click-bait headlines suggesting Zendaya was, in fact, playing the jackpot herself. But other than a photo of her with red hair, there was no concrete evidence suggesting she was playing MJ. As it stands, she is still officially Michelle and the more we learn about the upcoming film, the less likely it seems she’ll be Mary Jane.
Zendaya also spoke with THR and confirmed that she is indeed NOT the love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
My character is not romantic. My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like ‘My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.’ So she comes off very weird. But to me, she is very cool because she’s deep. She’s always thinking about something, always reading.
Zendaya also offered a very candid reaction to the rumors on the net about her playing the role of MJ.
People are going to react over anything. But nothing [about who she is playing] is fact. It’s like, you guys are just making shit up at this point and then reacting to it. Whenever we were on set, one of us gets some random character name [on the call sheet]. [Bloggers were] like, ‘Oh they must be so and so.’ And we just crack up about it, because it’s like, ‘Whatever you want to think. You’ll find out.’ It’s funny to watch the guessing game.”
Zendaya is absolutely right. Some bloggers tend to sell rumors as fast or totally misconstrue comments made by an actor or someone involved in a production for the sake of clicks. I’m glad to see the actress is offering some clarification and putting the kibosh on the rumors surrounding her character.
Lastly, the villain known as the Vulture, a former electronics engineer who creates a special harness of his own design allowing him to fly and providing him with enhanced strength has been rumored to be featured in the last several Spider-Man films including the Sam Raimi’s cancelled Spider-Man 4 as well as Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro.
Naturally, when it was announced Michael Keaton was on board to play the film’s villain, the rumors once again began to spread that the villain was going to be The Vulture. In this case, it has actually turned out to be true. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige casually confirmed Keaton would indeed be playing the character to the Toronto Sun (h/t IGN) last Wednesday.
We’ve had a wish list and most of them in the near-term are coming together. Cate Blanchett is playing Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Michael Keaton’s Vulture in Spider-Man is something. And of course, finally, we’re showcasing Josh Brolin’s Thanos (in Avengers: Infinity War). We’re looking forward to that very much.

Marvel films have for the most part suffered when it comes to the music featuring some pretty forgettable scores except for Alan Silvestri’s fantastic theme composed for The Avengers. With Giacchino now in the Marvel sandbox, I was hoping he would help to elevate things to the next level, however. That was not the case for me with Doctor Strange. I recognize the talent is an oscar winning composer for 2009’s Up, but I don’t understand all the love for the guy. Other than his theme for JJ Abrams‘ rebooted Star Trek, as well as his main theme for Super 8, I have never once enjoyed his music. I find his music to be generic, uninspiring, and completely forgettable. Which is exactly the case that was Doctor Strange for me — in one ear and out the other. His music doesn’t ever manage to amount to anything. Maybe I’m just salty for the fact that talented composers such as Bear McCreary are still stuck in the trenches cranking out scores for television.
Giacchino is on a roll, though, as Doctor Strange was just released this weekend and he is currently composing for the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to release next month on December 16th.
