‘Arrow’: Marc Guggenheim Talks Olivers Legacy in Season 5

It’s just one more day until the premiere of Arrow’s fifth season. EW spoke with executive producer and co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim about whats ahead for Oliver and co. as Prometheus is set to drive Oliver back to killing.

We’re dramatizing Oliver’s desire to evolve, but this concept of legacy keeps threatening to pull him back to the early days,” says EP Marc Guggenheim, teasing that there will be callbacks to season 1 as Oliver faces off against a mysterious new villain, Prometheus, whom he “bears a measure of responsibility for the creation of.

Hopefully season five restores the show to the greatness that was season one and two. While we know the flashbacks are set in Russia this season, Oliver has to make his way back to the island by the finale to sync up with the show’s pilot episode.

We also still have yet to see island Oliver set Slades original mask on a pike so theres a possibility the two could duel once more on Lian Yu.

Reverse Flash Warns Barry in Season 3 Premiere Clip

Flashpoint is just about here! We get our first feel for season the in the new clip as Reverse Flash warns Barry that if they remain within this timeline, time itself will be the end of them both.

I’m excited to see how they handle their version of Flashpoint. Obviously it won’t be anything like the comics or the animated feature. But that’s what make it even more worth doing. This gives everyone involved an opportunity to step out and bring their creativity to the table while paying homage to the source material. Hopefully Flashpoint will help the show get back to being as good as it was in season one.

WHAT WOULD YOU SACRIFICE TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU’VE EVER WANTED? — Barry (Grant Gustin) is living his dream life – his parents are alive, he’s asked Iris West (Candice Patton) on a date and he can finally be a normal guy as Central City has another speedster, Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), running around saving the city. When Barry starts forgetting parts of his old life, the Reverse Flash (guest star Matt Letscher) taunts his nemesis and tells him that there will be serious repercussions for Barry and the ones he loves if he continues to live in this alternate universe. In addition to losing his memories, his powers will also start to fade. When disaster strikes, Barry must decide if he wants to continue to live in this world as Barry Allen or return to his universe as The Flash. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Brooke Roberts.

Solo ‘Batman’ Film Gets a Title

In an interview posted today by the Associated Press for the new film The Accountant, Ben Affleck revealed the new solo Batman film will simply be titled, The Batman. The film is currently being co-written by Ben along with President and Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns. Ben is set to direct and star in the film which does not yet have a release date.

The movie I think is going to be called ‘The Batman’. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it… That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it.

The title itself is a refreshing antidote to the current trend of overloaded movie titles such as, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hopefully it doesn’t change. A simple title could be an indicator of a simpler narrative with a tighter focus. Hollywood has convinced itself it can jam pack two movies into one by adding a subtitle to the film’s title. BvS was attempting to be three films in one and it was a disjunctive cluster fuck that barely made any sense. Could the title of the solo Batman film be a sign DC is moving in the right direction? Time will tell…

Susanna Thompson Returns to ‘Arrow’

Entertainment Weekly just reported that Susanna Thompson will be reprising her role as Moira Queen for Arrow’s upcoming 100^th episode! How she will be returning is still unknown but it would be safe to say it will be in the shows flashbacks.

Susanna Thompson originally left the show when Moira Queen was killed off towards the end of season 2 by Deathstroke(Manu Bennett), who will also be returning this season. If the flashbacks take place in Star(ling) City during the shows 100^th episode, it’s likely we’ll also get to see the return of Tommy Merlyn(Colin O’Donnell) and Laurel Lance(Katie Cassidy). As weary as I am to get back into the show, all this news definitely has my attention. Season 5 is shaping up to be pretty exciting!

The Dominators Set As Villains For CW’s Crossover Event

This year The CW’s mega-crossover event will feature The Dominators as the main villains set to take on the heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. The four-episode event will be the network’s biggest crossover event in history.

In an interview with THR, Marc Guggenengheim said:

“We’re taking inspiration from a DC crossover from the late 1980s known as Invasion!, which featured an alien race called The Dominators, who’d previously vexed the Legion of Superheroes. We’re using cutting-edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”

It sounds promising but time will tell whether or not the producers were able to achieve film-quality effects on a television budget.

For those unfamiliar with The Dominators, they are an alien race who are interested in the genetic potential of the human race. Specifically, the metagene, which is the fictional gene that changes one from a human to a metahuman.

The Flash season three premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m., Arrow season five premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m., Supergirl season two premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. and Legends of Tomorrow season two premieres Thursday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. on The CW.

‘Arrow’ Season 5 Trailer “Break The Rules”

Killing is back on the table in the new trailer for the fifth season of The CW’s Arrow. Posted today by the show’s official twitter account, the new trailer shows us the Green Arrow reverting back to his old ways as he ruthlessly murders several baddies.

Prometheus must be pretty bad considering Ra’s Al Ghul and Damien Darhk weren’t enough to make Oliver kill again. It will be interesting to see Oliver’s past come full circle as he has a history with Prometheus. Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle said in an interview with IGN last month, “He has a very personal grudge and axe to grind with Oliver and he’s going to come at him in a really interesting, sociopathic kind of way.” The show won’t waste any time introducing him as he is set to make his debut in the season premiere.

I’m excited to see Curtis begin his journey towards becoming Mr. Fantastic but I’m not sold on Evelyn or Wild Dog just yet. Arrow has some work to do as far as winning me and much of the audience back. Hopefully the show won’t bore us with Olicity anymore. It’s time the producers realize relationship drama doesn’t make for interesting television. With Marc Guggenheim returning as co-showrunner, I’m hopeful the show will move back towards the tone of the earlier seasons.
